Many people give the the Sylvania netbook negative reviews because they simply don’t understand what they are buying. In this Sylvania Netbook review I’ll try to give you a better understanding so you can make a more informed decision.

The Sylvania 7″ Netbook is actually not that bad depending on what you want to use it for. It’s not good for playing games, (flash games or ok) It’s not good for watching movies and it’s not good for visiting sites that require high bandwidth.

The Sylvania Netbook  is NOT a Windows machine! It’s not Windows 7, not XP,  It’s not even Windows 98.  It runs on the Windows CE operating system.

This is an OS that was designed several years back when handheld pda’s and Palm Pilots were in.

For simple task such as writing, checking email, listening to mp3′s, browsing the web or even playing simple flash based games  I have to say, it gets the job done.

But don’t expect to add much to it. There’s not very much software available for the Win CE platform. Some people have complained of WIFI connection problems which may be solved with the firmware upgrade  that is available through the maker.


The unit I purchased in January 2011  had no issues at all. The keyboard might take a little getting used to, but this is expected in any netbook you buy due to their size.

You might find that the Sylvania 7″ netbook will make a  perfect first computer for children. The keyboard is just right and the’ll be able to download and play their favorite flash games. You should also consider getting wireless mouse and good carrying case.

Sylvania Netbook Summary

The Sylvania netbook will make a good first laptop for kids. It’s good for checking email while on the go,playing music,writing,web surfing, or even playing flash based games. Don’t expect anything more or you may be dissapointed.

Is the 7″ Sylvania Netbook Worth It?

Even though the Sylvania 7″ Netbook is selling at under $99 and is probably one the the cheapest devices of it’s kind available, some people still question whether purchasing  it would be worth it or not. Maybe it will cause more frusttation than it’s worth?

Or maybe you should just dish out $50-$75 more dollars to get something a little more suitable?Most thinking people are aware that at this price the Sylvania Netbook is bound  to have some limitations. But some people dive in thinking that they’re going to get a netbook that is something like their laptop or desktop and that’s simply not the case.

The Sylvania Netbook is very limited in it’s functions and operates more like big Palm Pilot rather than a pc. As I said before, the Sylvania Netbook is only useful if your goal is writing, playing mp3′s, playing simple flash games or browsing the web.  Don’t expect to do anything other than that.

Also, most people run into a little trouble when setting the Sylvania Netbook up initially. But once you have it setup it runs pretty good. At the end of the day for only $99 I have to say that the Sylvania Netbook is worth the price.
